According to Re-Code, Twitter may be in talks to acquire audio-sharing giant, Soundcloud. The Berlin-based company is a free service that describes itself as the “YouTube for audio” and claims to have 250 million users. If a deal were to go through, this would be the largest acquisition ever by Twitter, who recently bought mobile ad company MoPub in a deal which valued that company at over $300 million. However, this would not be Twitter’s first venture into music, they attempted to brand their own stand-alone Twitter music app last year. Due to lack of success, Twitter did away with the app in March. Twitter tried to get Soundcloud involved in their original app but legal issues got in the way. A recent survey found that Twitter users share Soundcloud links more than any other music service, including Spotify.
