The Boston Herald reports there has been a major increase in murders in Mexico since the 2016 arrest of “El Chapo.” The absence of the Mexican crime lord has inspired many cartel leaders to try to kill their way to the top of the Mexican drug scene. Mexico’s murder rate for 2016 jumped to 21.3 murders per 100,000 people, compared to 17.5 in 2015.
