Taunton Fire Responds Train Derailment; Fuel Spill

TAUNTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A cargo train derailed spilling a significant amount of fuel in Taunton Wednesday morning.

The CSX Train engine derailed near Mozzone Boulevard at shortly before 8. a.m. and according to Taunton Fire Chief Timothy J. Bradshaw the front of the engine of the train went off the tracks rupturing a fuel tank causing approximately 1,800 gallons of fuel to leak into the ground in a wooded area.

The rest of the train cars stayed on the track.

There were no reported injuries from the crew on board, and no current threat to the public. 

Emergency crews are on the scene actively working to contain the fuel spill.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
