Red Line Track Problems Leave Passengers Stranded

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Passengers using the MBTA Red line experienced severe service delays Wednesday morning.

MBTA Officials stay that a track problem and a motor failure on a northbound train car pulling into Andrew station caused the delay in both directions around 10 a.m.

According to WBZ-TV,  Officials say that a motor failed on the last car of the six car train as it approached Andrew Station.

Kyle T. Hemmingway, one of the passengers travelling on board, described the train "bucking off the tracks with sparks, outside the window."

Hemmingway tweeted that shards of glass imploded into the train car.

The schedule has been delayed and MBTA Buses are replacing to take take stranded passengers between Broadway and JFK/UMass Stations.

Passengers can also use the Commuter Rail service on the Middleborough, Kingston and Greenbush lines as an alternative MBTA says.

The cause of that failure is still under investigation and MBTA officials do not have an estimate as to when service will be restored.
