MassDOT Release Cost Estimate For Rail Link Between North and South Station

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- More than a year ago, the Massachusetts  Department of Transportation hired a consulting firm to do a feasibility study for a rail link connecting North and South stations in Boston.

The rail connection between the two stations would take around eight years to build, and the cheapest cost--for just two tracks-would be more than  $12-billion dollars, according to the feasibility study.

Scott Hamway, with the MassDOT  points out it's challenging and expensive to tunnel through Boston:

The report also says that construction could have a huge impact on commuter rail passengers coming into south station because the tunnel boring process will start heading underground at Back Bay station.
