WALPOLE, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Walpole Police have made an arrest in connection to a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts in Town.

They say that Nicholas, DeBerry, 27, of Walpole, was arrested Thursday and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon (knife) and possession of a class B substance.

It's unclear when DeBerry will be arraigned.

Christopher Mackenzie, Deputy Chief for Walpole Police, tells WBZ NewsRadio1030 that DeBerry was tracked using a K9 dog.

They had received numerous reports from residents living on Kendall and East Streets. A total of four cars were stolen and 11 cars were broken into during a two day period.

“We found two of the vehicles locally not far from the scene. They were hidden behind two different buildings and after a search of the area we had a K9 respond and led us to a resident whom we are familiar with,” Mackenzie said.

MacKenzie said that at the time of the break-ins last week, none of the cars involved were locked at the time and some had keys inside of them.

“Criminals constantly go to unlocked vehicles that are left unattended with merchandise clearly visible. So lock up your vehicles, if you do leave anything in it make sure they are covered that they are not open to people that are walking by  most importantly-keep vehicles locked,” he said.

The investigation is still ongoing to see if anyone else was involved. Walpole Police are asking anyone with information to contact their office at 508-668-1212.
