LEICESTER, Mass (WBZ-AM) —  It's preparation day and a dawn of a new era as two retail locations get ready to sell recreational cannabis legally to the public in Massachusetts.

You can buy cannabis legally – starting Tuesday. Two retail locations are opening, one in Northampton, the other in the Central Massachusetts town of Leicester.

Cultivate on Main Street in Leicester already sells medical marijuana, Sam Barber, President of Cultivate says they’re ready for big crowds.

“We’re very excited to get going starting sales tomorrow I think this is a very historic moment for the state of Massachusetts,” he said.

While some snow is in the forecast for Tuesday, Barber says that shouldn't dampen the party spirit for pot buyers. They expect lines to start forming at 7 a.m. with doors will open at 8 a.m.

“ We’ve done everything to make sure we are prepared for thousands,” said.

With big crowds expected local police are implementing what they call a special operations plan.

Leicester Police Chief Jim Hurley says if you want to buy pot here Tuesday, you'll have to take a shuttle bus from a satellite lot.

Detail Officers will direct traffic. Hurley also has this advice for those who come here...

“Consume responsibly and in compliance with the law. Public consumption is illegal and you cannot consume in your car please make sure you adhere to that,” Hurley said.
