BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) —  Boston Police Department Commissioner William Gross said the surviving man in a shootout in Roxbury Friday will be charged. The shooting left one person dead.

“Speaking with [Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins], we fully expect to charge that individual with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling,” Gross said.

The surviving alleged gunman remains hospitalized.

Gross said that shortly after 3:30 p.m. officers responded to the 3100 block of Washington Street after they had received calls for two persons shot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found two men, late 30s, with apparent gunshot wounds, according to Gross. Both were taken to local hospitals. One was declared dead.

Gross said that two guns were recovered and that it is likely that the two were shooting at each other after an apparent verbal dispute.

"This was not a random act, I don't know if these two parties were known to each other, but their aggressions were towards each other," Gross said.

A beauty store owner on Washington Street told WBZ NewsRadio1030's Karyn Regal that a client came in terrified. She was a passenger in an Uber when the windows in that car were shot out. That owner said they likely heard 12 to 15 gunshots.
