9 People Injured, 8 Homes Burned In Massive Mattapan Fire

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A large nine-alarm fire on the Dorchester/Mattapan line has left nine people injured, including seven firefighters, and eight homes burned.

About 14 residents were displaced due to the fire that spread from house-to-house on Old Morton Street.

Authorities responded to the fire around 4:45 p.m. Saturday. Investigators are now looking into the cause and origin of the fire.

The Boston Fire Department's Brian Alkins told WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas how the the fire had a domino effect that caused it to spread from building to building.

“Wind has a lot to do with it and the proximity of the houses have a lot to do with it. It could happen. This just happened to happen that there were eight houses involved,” Alkins said.

The Red Cross is assisting with the recovery efforts in the area.
