Aaron Carter is getting real about his mental health issues. During a two-part interview on The Doctors, the musician comes clean about the numerous diagnoses he's received over the years and the medications prescribed to treat the disorders.
In an exclusive clip from the show, airing Thursday and Friday (September 11-12), the 31-year-old lists off his the official diagnoses he suffers from, including "multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety." Carter shares he's also "manic depressive," adding, "I’m prescribed to Xanax, Seroquel, gabapentin, hydroxyzine, trazodone, omeprazole.”
The "Sooner or Later" crooner is also discovered to have "tested positive" for a drug after taking a drug test with Dr. Stork, which remains to be revealed. The clips also tease Carter confronting his mother, Jane, with the ultimatum of quitting her drinking addiction or be out of his life for good.
“Her drinking is 5 a.m. in the morning she wakes up, she drinks a whole bottle of vodka … I’m the only one that goes down there and visits my mom,” Carter explained. “I see her in the craziest, most toxic, unhealthy place in the world.”
The singer — who discussed his personal struggles on The Doctors in 2017 — credits the show for saving his life and wants that for his mother.
Carter expressed his biggest fear is that she may take her own life, but when she concurred she shared the same fear, he denied her claim. "You don't care if you live or die right now, be honest," he told Jane, to which she responded, "I really don't want to die."
The artist's latest TV appearance comes more than a month after Carter's family, fearing he was suicidal, called police to perform a welfare check at his Lancaster home.
