Connecticut Man Arrested In Assault On State Trooper In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Connecticut man has been charged with assaulting a Massachusetts State Trooper in Springfield.

Elijah Henderson, 27, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, is charged with assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

State Police said the assault happened around 2 p.m. on Route 91 Northbound near Exit 3, after Henderson's car broke down.

They said Henderson got into an argument with the responding trooper after a tow truck was called, eventually assaulting that trooper.

The trooper was hospitalized with minor injuries.

"The Trooper requested backup, resulting in multiple State Police and Springfield Police cruisers responding," State Police said in a release. "Traffic was severely impacted in the area for approximately one hour."

Henderson was arrested, and is due to be arraigned Thursday in Springfield District Court.
