Santa Brings Gifts To Kids In Dorchester

DORCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Christmas came early as families congregated in Florian Hall for Mayor Marty Walsh’s 5th annual toy drive in Dorchester.

The mayor spoke at the event before handing out toys to the excited children in the audience.

“A bunch of nonprofits came together to create something special, it’s not a political event, it’s a happy holiday Christmas event,” Mayor Walsh said.

Santa Claus even made an appearance to hand out presents.

“The toys go right back to the kids in the city, we donate them to other organizations, we work with Toys for Tots and other organizations,” Mayor Walsh said. “It’s a great day, it’s a feel-good event.”

Commissioner Gross handed out toys as well.

“The commissioner should be here because the people are the ones who helped get me here,” Commissioner Gross said. “It’s just my way of saying thank you, paying it forward to make sure that the future generation that they’re taken care of.”

Commissioner Gross says the holiday season is special in Boston.

“We want everyone to have an enjoyable, safe holiday. And it begins here, the first in the nation,” Gross said.
