BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The New England Patriots could have to pay a fine after someone on their production team filmed the Bengals’ sideline last week.

The Washington Post reports that the team could be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars, and could lose or have a reduced value in a draft pick.

Earlier this week, the Patriots said in a statement that the video crew they sent to the Cleveland Browns- Cincinnati Bengals game was “in order to capture one part of a longer feature on the Patriots scouting department, in this case a Patriots pro personnel scout while he was working in the press box.”

“While we sought and were granted credentialed access from the Cleveland Browns for the video crew, our failure to inform the Bengals and the league was an unintended oversight,” the Patriots said.

The Patriots were fined $250,000 in 2007 in the case, now referred to as ‘Spygate,’ when they broke NFL rules by filming New York Jets coaching signals. Patriots coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000 in that case.

The team was fined again in 2015, this time $1 million, after being accused of deflating footballs.

The Patriots played the Bengals on Sunday Dec. 15, beating them 34-13.
