Lawyers For Lori Loughlin, Husband Say New Evidence Shows They're Innocent

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Lawyers for actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, say there is new evidence that would prove the couple is innocent in the college admissions scandal.

According to the Associated Press, the lawyers say in a new court filing that the scheme's mastermind Rick Singer had taken notes that the FBI wanted him to lie that he had told the parents the payments were bribes. They say this shows the Loughlin and Giannulli are innocent because they believed the payments were actual donations, not bribes.

"They continue to ask me to tell a fib and not restate what I told my clients as to where there money was going — to the program not the coach and that it was a donation and they want it to be a payment," the court filing says Singer wrote, according to the Associated Press.

Loughlin and Giannulli are accused of paying $500,000 dollars to get their daughters into the University of Southern California as fake crew recruits. The couple had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Singer, as well as some of the parents, did plead guilty. Among those parents was actress Felicity Huffman. She was sentenced to 14 days behind bars for paying to have her daughter's SAT answers corrected.

Earlier this week, Hot Pockets heiress Michelle Janavs was sentenced to 5 months in prison. She pleaded guilty to working with Singer to help her daughters on the ACT, and build a fake athletic profile for her daughter in the college admissions scandal.
