BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston's coronavirus pandemic frontline workers will be shown a little love on Friday night.
The "Clap Because You Care" event in the city was started online by Corey Dinopoulos from South Boston, after he got inspired by videos from Italy and Spain where residents in lockdown joined together to cheer and clap for those battling coronavirus.
The idea has since been amplified on social media and has caught on in several neighborhoods.
"Everyone who is out there working on the front lines needs to know how grateful we are," Dinopoulos told WBZ NewsRadio.
Dinopoulos says he's hoping tonight at 7 p.m., and every night Friday going forward, residents will take to their yards, balconies, or even just lean out their windows to clap for essential workers like delivery drivers, grocery store employees, and healthcare professionals.
"It's such a feel-good moment," Dinopoulos said. "Because there's not that many things to feel that great about right now, and we always try to look for a silver lining."
