BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Resiliency Fund was set up by the city last month, to help community groups assisting residents during the pandemic, including homeless and immigrant populations.
According to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, there is now additional $1.7 million available in grants to help the city's most vulnerable populations.
"The funds are going to organizations that serve our hardest hit neighborhoods and communities," said Walsh at a press conference on Wednesday. "The funds will be made available immediately, as they will help close that gap."
Mayor Walsh said the grants will help increase coronavirus testing at six community health centers in Mattapan, several family shelters in Boston, and a number of other credible organizations like St. Francis House and Rise Massachusetts.
"These grants will allow them to expand their reach, and help even more people," said Walsh. "We're harnessing the generosity of Boston residences and businesses, and we're making sure those resources go where they need to make the biggest impact."
Walsh said in the month since the city's fund was launched, it has raised over $25 million, with $12 million "already out the door to local organizations."
