BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Prosecutors have dropped their criminal case accusing veteran Boston Bruins player Milan Lucic of assaulting his wife, after she refused to testify in court Friday.
The Bruins organization says Lucic "will remain on indefinite leave" for the rest of this season.
Lucic was arrested and charged with one count of domestic assault in November following an alleged assault in their North End apartment.
WBZ NewsRadio's Suzanne Sausville (@wbzSausville) reports the state filed a 'Motion in Limine' to get the 911 call from the alleged assault admitted as evidence Friday morning, but a judge ruled prosecutors could not rely on the recording instead of testimony by Brittany Lucic.
Without the recording or the testimony, the case was dismissed and Lucic essentially walked out of the Boston courtroom a free man.
Addressing reporters, Lucic's attorney Gary Pelletier said his client "wants to get on with his life" and restart his NHL career.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Bruins says the organization "supports Milan and his family as he continues his personal rehabilitation."
