DJ Quik's adult son has been found guilty of second-degree murder after he was charged with the death of a Los Angeles man.
In a statement the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office issued on Friday, December 5, David Marvin Blake Jr. was convicted of second-degree murder and one count of shooting from a motor vehicle. Prosecutors argued that Blake fired multiple shots from inside a vehicle in Downey, Calif. before he fled the scene. The victim, 33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr., was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead after he suffered from a gunshot wound to the chest.
“Blake was found guilty yesterday of second-degree murder and the gun allegations and the great bodily injury allegations were found to be true," the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said. "He also was convicted of one count of shooting from a motor vehicle and the gun and GBI allegations also were found to be true."
The incident began after Cardoza reportedly got into a fight with another man on the night of May 25, 2022. Police say Blake shot at Cardoza from a vehicle and drove off. He was arrested the following day in Porter Ranch, Calif., and held on a $2 million bond. In addition to being the son of the veteran rapper, Blake also worked as a council liaison to Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan.
Blake will have to wait a few more months before the judge throws the book at him. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 6. He faces up to 40 years to life in state prison.
