BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Anime Boston is a three-day convention held annually in Boston that celebrates Japanese culture and media. The event began Friday, Apr. 3.

Held at the Hynes Convention Center, the convention is filled with anime fans cosplaying as fictional characters from their favorite shows and other Japanese media.

“The organization here is incredible,” one attendee said.

The convention allows fans to buy exclusive merchandise, take photos and see unique cosplays.

“This is the work of many years. Every year I put on a different piece,” an excited cosplayer said.

Among the crowd of princesses, warriors and demons, compliments are common among cosplayers attending the event.

“I like it to be big enough, but not as big as, let’s say, Comic-Con, for example. When you have so many people, it can get a little crowded and claustrophobic,” one attendee said.

The convention runs through the weekend, April 3-5, and is expected to draw thousands of attendees over the three-day event.
