BELMONT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Officials in Belmont have launched a new online system to report gas or oil-powered leaf blower violations. This comes after local police said they received complaints about the device.
“[The form] helps ensure concerns are routed quickly and handled efficiently,” police said.
The town’s bylaw prohibits the use of all leaf blowers year-round and has been in effect since the beginning of this year.
However, some residents told WBZ NewsRadio that the dedicated reporting system may be too much.
“I don’t think I’ll bother reporting a neighbor if they use it for 20 minutes,” a resident said.
Others added that the form could be helpful when needed.
“I generally wouldn’t know who to call to complain about it,” another resident added. “So, the fact that they have a dedicated service for doing that, I think it’s going to be really helpful for people like me.”
Violators of the ban will be issued a warning for the first offense, a $100 fine for the second offense and a $300 fine for the third and each subsequent offense.
