Boston Among 23 Mass. Communities At High Risk For COVID-19

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston is now one of the 23 Massachusetts communities considered to be at high risk for COVID-19 transmission.

Eleven new communities were added to the list on Wednesday including Attleboro, Boston, Dracut, Haverhill, Lowell, Lynnfield, Methuen, Middleton, North Andover, and Springfield.

This is the first time that Boston has ever been in the red category, which signifies high risk communities, on the state's COVID-19 Community-Level Data Map.

Red zones indicate there are more than eight cases per 100,000 people. Yellow indicates that there are between four and eight cases per 100,000 people. Green indicates there are less than 4 cases per 100,000 people. Gray indicates there are less than 5 reported cases.

The remaining communities in the red include Avon, Chelsea, Everett, Framinham, Holliston, Lawrence, Lynn, Marlboro, Nantucket, New Bedford, Revere, Winthrop, and Worcester.

Three communities were also taken off state's high risk list from last week's report — Saugus, Tyngsboro, and Wrentham.

On Wednesday, the state reported 510 total newly confirmed cases. This brings the total case count to 129,753. There were also 32 newly reported deaths, bringing the death toll up to 9,242.
