BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Healthcare workers from both Boston Medical Center Brighton and Boston Medical Center South have voted in favor of authorizing a one-day strike in March.

The vote followed several employees from the company claiming the hospital's former owner, Steward Healthcare, mismanaged operations during its time with BMC.

Although new ownership went into place back in October 2024, the workers said staffing issues and wage problems have continued to impact both sites, which led to 96% of members from 1199SEIU voting in favor of authorizing a one-day strike.

1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East has nearly 1,400 members at both locations.

Despite the setbacks, staff at the hospitals have been working non-stop to try and secure essential investments to help boost employee environments and improve the Brighton and Brockton communities.

Federal Labor Laws require a 10-day notice before any strike occurs at a hospital, and a notice has yet to be issued. The next bargaining session for BMC and 1199SEIU is set for March 30.
