CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Local protests continue over the possibility of the United States entering into a war with Iran after the killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in a U.S. drone strike last week.
At one such protest in Cambridge Monday morning, peace activists rallied on the front steps of Cambridge City Hall, holding signs reading "Stop War With Iran" and "No More Money For War" and calling for state lawmakers to be more vocal against another Middle East war.
Protesters' ire wasn't just limited to President Donald Trump—they also took issue with Democratic Rep. Katherine Clark. Brian Garvey with Massachusetts Peace Action explained why to WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas.
"Just a couple of weeks ago, Katherine Clark voted for the National Defense Authorization Act, which allocates $738 billion for the defense apartment," Garvey said. "She voted for that after a crucial amendment was stripped from that bill, that would have prevented Donald Trump from making an unauthorized war against Iran."
Clark was in Cambridge for the swearing in of the state's first Muslim mayor. Her spokesperson refused to confirm to WBZ NewsRadio whether or not Clark was at the protest.

Garvey said he doesn't believe the killing of Gen. Soleimani makes America safer.
"It just doesn't make sense that they would assassinate this leader to make our troops and our country safer, and then recommend that all of the embassy staff, the citizens and civilian staff of the embassy in Iraq leave because of increased danger," he said. "It just doesn't add up."
He and others said they were worried that not only would Iran retaliate, but that President Trump would only escalate things from there.
