BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Would you scale 41 stories of a staircase for a good cause in full firefighting gear?
Fire departments from all over the state, Belmont, Hanover, Chelsea, and even companies from Lewiston, Maine, were onsite Saturday at One Boston Place to climb 41 stories for the 21st annual "Fight For Air Climb." Hundreds of people, including first responders and civilians, are scaling the stairs to raise funds for the American Lung Association.
The money raised will support research on lung diseases, including asthma and leukemia.
Stair climbing is not a random choice of exercise either. It has major benefits for lung and heart health.

"It was pretty hard. I think I knew that coming into it, but definitely a shock doing it. And you know, just get around floor 25, and you're like, oh my gosh, like it's rough at the 25 mark. You just [have to] keep pushing. My legs don't feel the best right now."
At the top, canned oxygen and water waited for the daring scalers. Lewiston firefighters were also greeted at the top by support dogs, including Autumn, the same Golden Retriever who supported and comforted them during the Lewiston, Maine, shooting.
The American Lung Association aims to raise $275,000 this year to research all types of lung disease.
