BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — There was a special event on Monday at the State House, celebrating a 107-year-old World War II veteran.

Boston resident Arthur Rose turned 107 back in February, and several Massachusetts officials, including Governor Maura Healey, were there to honor him. Rose spoke about his time fighting in World War II.

“I was on Omaha Beach on D-Day,” said Rose. “I was frightened, but I wasn’t as frightened as I thought I would be. I didn’t get hurt, so I'm glad I was there.”

Gov. Healey presented Rose with a Massachusetts flag that was flown above the State House for his birthday.

When asked about his reaction, Rose said it’s hard to describe.

“I can’t get over it, I can’t believe it, but I’m glad I’m here,” said Rose.

When asked about the key to a long life, Rose said it’s all in the genes.
