WINCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey was at Lynch Elementary School in Winchester on Monday, where she signed an executive order with a goal of bringing more energy into the state and lowering costs.

She outlined directives for state agencies related to solar, storage, wind, load management, gas, nuclear, and geothermal, leading to an estimated savings of $10 billion for residents and businesses around the state.

“I’m setting Massachusetts on a course, to get 10 new gigawatts of energy into our state as soon as possible, that’s enough to power two million homes,” said Healey. “We need to get even more energy into Massachusetts. That’s why today, I’ll be signing an executive order that does just that.”

The 10 gigawatts energy supply is expected to be secured by 2035, along with 5 gigawatts of new energy storage. The order comes amid rising gas, oil, and energy prices, as the U.S. and Israel continue to attack Iran.

“By one analysis, the war is costing Massachusetts drivers 2.4 million dollars every single day,” said Healey. “Our team, we were preparing this EO to bring more energy in, to lower your bills, long before this war. But I think this war makes it all the more important that we move ahead and get this done.”

Healey has given several agencies a list of steps to take in order to make energy more affordable, which included building more solar projects before federal support is cut, exploring wind, nuclear power, and fusion energy options, and flexible interconnection of already established energy grids
