JetBlue Consolidates Flights In New England

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — JetBlue Airlines has revised its flight schedules and is temporarily consolidating its operations at five major U.S. metropolitan areas, including in New England.

There are usually 180 daily JetBlue departures combined out of Boston and Providence. As of April 15, the airline said that number will be decreased to around 28 daily departures from Logan Airport, and all remaining JetBlue flights from Providence's International Airport will be suspended.

According to a press release, JetBlue's the new schedules "are aimed at reducing excess flying during a time of unprecedented low demand for air travel while maintaining a critical level of service across the airline’s network for those who absolutely must fly."

The company is also consolidating flights around Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.

“We face new challenges every day," said Scott Laurence, JetBlue's head of revenue and planning. "[We] can’t hesitate to take the steps necessary to reduce our costs amidst dramatically falling demand so we can emerge from this unprecedented time as a strong company for our customers and crew members."

The airline said it has "reduced its flying network-wide by 80 percent per day in April."

JetBlue customers whose flights have been canceled will be notified via email for rebooking options on other JetBlue flights or the choice of a refund or JetBlue credit for future travel.
