Police said that Newman did not just leave after allegedly striking and killing Daniel DeLima, he actively sought to cover up the hit-and-run.

Newman drove out of state to Connecticut to repair his car, prosecutors said. Police said they had traced Newman’s cell phone.

“There’s a lot of evidence here that has to be closely looked at,” Newman’s attorney said.

This is the second time in eight weeks that Newman has been reported to have been involved in a hit-and-run. The first time did not involve another person, but there was property damage.
