BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts celebrated the 20th anniversary of the passing of Massachusetts's healthcare reform law Chapter 58 at Faneuil Hall.
Five Massachusetts governors (Maura Healey, Michael Dukakis, Bill Weld, Deval Patrick and Mitt Romney) were at Fanueil Hall this morning to celebrate the anniversary.
Chapter 58, also known as Romneycare, was named after then-Governor Romney, who signed the the reform into law all those years ago.
Romney spoke at the event, sharing how important this was to his and his fellow politicians' careers.
“Having spent 6 years in Washington, I have greater appreciation for what we did here in Massachusetts,” he said. “The political leaders who were part of this effort came to the job to get things done, not just to see what we can do to get reelected.”

Gov. Healey echoed Romney, while also highlighting how this law has impacted the state, leading to 97% of Massachusetts citizens to being covered by health insurance.
“It’s hard to believe, 20 years, time flies when you’re having so much fun in healthcare,” Healey said. “Thanks to the people in this hall and beyond, Massachusetts covers more of its residents with health insurance than anywhere else.”
