Massachusetts Statewide Curfew Lifts This Week

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As of Monday, January 25th, businesses like restaurants, movie theaters and casinos can stay open past 9:30 p.m.

For many avid gym-goers, skipping leg day is not an option. Unfortunately for METfit owner Bob Popp, he's had to close his Natick gym early for several months, and the late-night crowd wasn't too pleased.

"A lot of people feel gyms are essential businesses for physical and mental wellbeing," Popp said. "They don't really get upset at us. They may get upset at the government, but that's a different issue."

Customers who have missed late-night lifting, including those who work odd hours like first responders, should be pumped about this news; the statewide 9:30 p.m. curfew is being lifted on Monday, which means Popp and other night-owls can go back to breaking a sweat until 11 p.m.

Although METfit will still be at 25 percent capacity, and masks must be worn at all times, Popp said he believes it's a step in the right direction.
