BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MBTA Orange Line service between North Station and Back Bay was temporarily suspended Wednesday due to a fire near the Tufts Medical Center station.
MBTA officials said that shortly before noon, a train motorperson at Tufts southbound reported flames on the track area in front of the train. Power to the third rail was shut off as the fire was being extinguished and fire crews arrived on-scene, the MBTA said.
Images and video shared on Twitter by @Windtrain1 showed a fire on the track, as well as an abundance of smoke inside the station.
No injuries were reported.
As Boston firefighters left the scene, MBTA Orange Line Operations and Power Department personnel remained to investigate the cause of the fire. The Power Department completed repairs around 2 p.m. and regular service between North Station and Back Bay resumed, the MBTA said.
The MBTA initially posted on Twitter that they were investigating an issue with the third rail near the station.
