CHICAGO (WBZ NewsRadio) - R. Kelly was arrested in Chicago on Thursday night and indicted on 13 federal counts ranging from sex crimes to obstruction of justice. The singer, who already faces sex abuse charges in Illinois, was taken into custody around 7:00 p.m. local time and is being held by authorities.

"The counts include child porn, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice," U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Joseph Fitzpatrick said. More details are expected to be released Friday.

Kelly was also arrested in February on 10 counts involving four women, three of whom were minors when the alleged abuse occurred. The 52-year-old pleaded not guilty and was released on bail.

Prosecutors added 11 more sex-related counts in May involving one of the women who accused him of sexually abusing her when she was underage.

Kelly's legal troubles snowballed this year after Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly documentary brought attention to decades-old allegations of sex abuse.

When similar allegations were levied more than a decade ago, the Grammy winner avoided jail time as a jury acquitted him of child pornography charges stemming from the discovery of a videotape allegedly showing Kelly having sex with a minor.

Kelly's arraignment has not yet been set.
