LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After ending operations back in 2020, the Lowell Spinners will be making their return.

It was recently announced that the former baseball team would be returning for the 2026 season as part of the Futures League, and Lowell residents like Katie are loving the news.

“They’re fun games, they’re affordable,” said Katie. “Sometimes the Red Sox are so expensive, so I think it's great.”

Tickets for the team's home opener at LeLacheur Park on May 29 recently went on sale, and Chief Baseball Officer Marc Deschenes said they’ve already sold over 1,100 season ticket packages.

“We were hoping for the outpouring support to cascade into the ticket sales, and it certainly has,” said Deschenes. “We’ve got group sales, we’ve got mini-packs that have gone over well, different promotional nights that have gone over well.”

From movie nights on the field to camping out by home base, the team said they’ll be hosting plenty of events to get the community involved. Deschenes said he’s happy to see older fans still interested in the franchise.

“Those fans are now adults that have kids, and are trying to bring that experience and that thing they love to their kids,” said Deschenes. “We’re looking to bring back what the old experience was, but then modernize that and catch up with baseball and where it is now.”
