SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Somerville-based artisan bread company has made a new home for itself.

Launching in 2020 as a delivery-style subscription box service, Wildgrain has over 150,000 members nationwide.

It is now planting roots in the city where it was founded, with its first brick-and-mortar at the Somernova business park in Somerville.

The new location opened on March 5, and since then, residents have been walking in to purchase goods without a subscription or membership.

“[We’re] Lucky to see already in this first week, that folks who work in this area, live in this area, have been coming back and trying new options, and have their favorites figured out,” said General Manager Gene Buonaccorsi.

From buttered croissants to sourdough bread loaves and cookies, Wildgrain Bakehouse offers flash-frozen and pre-made baked goods for customers to enjoy.

Buonaccorsi said its founders originally planned to eventually open their own bakehouse.

“So the retail environment is kind of taking that concept from the subscription box service, and bringing it to life here in the community where the company was founded,” added Buonaccorsi.
