BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Although it's been a fairly mild January to date, the National Weather Service warned of sub-zero wind chills across Massachusetts over the weekend.
The NWS Boston reported below-freezing temperatures in every part of the state Friday morning.
Meteorologists said areas north and west of I-95 could see wind chill temperatures drop anywhere between 6 to 10 degrees Friday night, while wind chill temperatures could drop to a low of one degree Fahrenheit in parts of Western Massachusetts.
Those icy winter chills are expected to continue throughout the weekend, the NWS said.
"Blustery Weekend - Low Wind Chill!" NWS Boston tweeted Friday. "Breezy conditions bring sub-zero wind chills for areas [North] & [West] of I-95 on Saturday night."
Wind chill temperatures could drop to zero across eastern Massachusetts Saturday night, and most residents west of I-495 can expect wind chills to range from -2 to -9 degrees.
The NWS Boston said the lowest daytime wind chill on Saturday will likely remain below 10 degrees Fahrenheit north and west of I-95.
From Boston to the Cape, the lowest wind chill temperatures on Saturday are expected to linger between 11 and 13 degrees.
Scattered snow showers were reported across the Hudson Valley at around 4 p.m. Friday, diminishing as they passed the Berkshires. NWS Boston said residents in the western part of the state could expect "hit-or-miss snow showers through the evening hours as a strong cold front pushes through [South] New England tonight."
