BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A suspect is in custody after a violent incident at the Forest Hills MBTA Station Friday, police said.
MBTA Transit Police responded to the station around 11:15 a.m. for reports of a man armed with a butcher knife threatening people and attempting to stab tires on a bus, according to Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan.
Responding officers rushed in and a struggle ensued with an adult male suspect, who reached for an officer's weapon, Sullivan said. During the struggle, an officer's gun discharged, but no one was struck. How the gun went off is under investigation.
Police ultimately gained control of the suspect, who has not been identified, and took him into custody, Sullivan said.
Sullivan said one officer suffered a knee injury during the struggle and a second officer suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.
Boston EMS said six people in total were taken to Boston area hospitals, but Sullivan did not elaborate about the other four people or the extent of their injuries.
The Forest Hills upper busway has been temporarily closed because of the incident, the MBTA said. Riders should board all buses in the lower busway. Orange Line service is not impacted.
