CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Cambridge diner specializing in vegan food is receiving national recognition for excellence.

Veggie Galaxy, located in Cambridge's Central Square, has been in business for 15 years, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Lifestyle magazine 'Veg News' recently named Veggie Galaxy as the 'Best Vegan Food in the Country,' a lofty recognition that managing partner Michael Bissanti said makes him so proud. "To get that acknowledgement, that recognition, on a national level, from readers and from editors, to us, was just really nice," he said. "It's like, ok, people get it. They like what we're doing here."

In spite of its popularity and national recognition for creating and serving plant-based meals, Bissanti said it remains a challenge to attract all types of customers, including meat lovers.

For them, he has this advice: "Come here and just be curious about different types of cuisine, different types of flavors, different textures, and have fun. You'd be surprised."

Bissanti said one of the specials his chef prepared was crab cakes. "Close your eyes and tell me that's not real crab cake!"
