CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of thousands of people pushed through cold weather across the nation on Saturday, taking part in the Women's March 2020.

In Portsmouth, N.H., Democratic contender for President, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was in attendance. He gave a speech to the crowds shortly after 2 p.m.

The 4th annual Women's March happened in support of women's rights and equality. Crowds gathered in dozens of major U.S. cities including New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Atlanta.

Organizers estimated up to 10,000 participants were at the main event in D.C., which was held on Freedom Plaza, with demonstrators marching around the White House.

Protesters are not just taking to the streets in the U.S. Since its inception in 2016, the Women's March has become global, with major crowds chanting from Johannesburg to Moscow to Bali.

The march is being funded by a long list of donors and partners, including Planned Parenthood, GreenPeace, and the National Organization For Women.
