WELLESLEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio)Ā ā€” As the Israel-Hamas War continues to claim more lives, a local university is under federal investigation for hate on campus.

The Department of Education (DOE) released a list of the higher education and K-12 institutions under investigation for alleged shared ancestry violations of Title VI, which prohibits discrimination, including harassment based on a personā€™s shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics. Wellesley College was the only Mass. school on the list.

Back in Oct., Wellesley College President Paula A. Johnson released a statement condemning antisemitism and Islamophobia on campus, following a public targeting of students online.

ā€œI know some parents are concerned about the well-being of their students because of recent posts online. As president of Wellesley, my highest priority is the safety of our students and of the entire College community,ā€ said Johnson.

On Nov. 10, the Brandeis Center and Jewish on Campus filed Title VI complaints with the DOE, citing an antisemitic email from a residential advisor, President Johnsonā€™s response and a panel that faculty hosted about the conflict.
