The highly publicized rift between Lil Uzi Vert and DJ Drama (and his record label Generation Now) led to the development of a narrative that cast Roc Nation as Uzi's savior by reviving his career after the working relationship with Generation Now soured.
However, DJ Drama obviously doesn't buy the narrative. While speaking about it on the Rory & Mal Podcast, Drama said “Generation Now, we had amazing success with Lil Uzi Vert.”
“We’re in a great space. One of the reasons why it was a tough spot for us is because Vert’s success was our success. Even with the Roc Nation situation, like Roc Nation was put in the media as if they saved Lil Uzi Vert’s career. It was a ‘Free Uzi’ campaign. ‘Roc Nation, save Lil Uzi.’ Save him from who?”
“We didn’t do nothing wrong by that kid,” he added. “All we did was help make him a f***ing superstar.”
These days, Drama says everyone is cool and they recently worked together for Uzi's latest EP, Red & White. “Cannon’s been back in the studio with Vert...they worked on the most recent project together,” Drama said. “We’ve been talking to Vert, consistently, for the last six, seven, eight months. … It’s dope. It’s a good feeling. What we went through, it became public...it happens between family.”
