In the mid-2000s, a relatively unknown recording artist from the UK named M.I.A. released a critically acclaimed album called Arcular. The classic debut LP introduced the world to an infectiously unique singer/rapper and shined the spotlight on her equally exciting music producer, Diplo. For a short-lived time, M.I.A. became a global superstar, but eventually, her stardom was surpassed by Diplo, who went on to produce records for platinum-selling artists like Chris Brown, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, and Bad Bunny.
Diplo has endured himself to several communities all over the world, from Europe to the Americas, including the LGBTQ+. In the events leading up to the making of "Express Yourself" featuring Nicky Da B, Diplo submerged himself in the LBGTQ music scene of New Orleans to prepare for the collaboration. And back in 2018, he famously kissed a Brazilian drag queen named Pabllo Vittar in a music video called "Então Vai." The iconic DJ/music producer recently appeared as a guest on a podcast called High Low with EmRata where he addressed speculation about his sexuality.
"I don't want to define that I'm gay but I'm not, not gay," Diplo said. "I'm not really aroused by men, that I know about... I'm sure I've gotten a blow job from a guy before."
"And you just don't remember?" Asked Emily Emily Ratajkowski. "You're not committing, but you're saying you're sure it happened."
"For sure," Diplo responded. "I don't know if it's gay unless you make eye contact while there's a blow job happening."
