BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The United States Attorney for Massachusetts, Rachael Rollins is resigning after a months-long ethics probe from the Department of Justice over several issues including her appearance at a political fundraiser.
According to the Associated Press, that investigation has yet to be released, but is said to include details on Rollins' alleged use of her personal cellphone to conduct official DOJ business and a trip to California that was allegedly paid for by an outside organization.
Rollins was the Suffolk County District Attorney until she was sworn into her DOJ position in 2022.
Michael Bromwich, an attorney representing Rollins, says in a statement she'll submit a resignation letter by the end of Friday.
Rachael has been profoundly honored to serve as U.S. Attorney over the past 16 months and is incredibly proud of all her office has accomplished during that limited time, especially in the areas of gun violence and civil rights. She is optimistic that the important work she started will continue but understands that her presence has become a distraction. The work of the office and the Department of Justice is far too important to be overshadowed by anything else. After the dust settles and she resigns, Rachael will make herself available to answer questions. Until then, she reminds the public of the vitally important work the office does and thanks her colleagues for their service to the Commonwealth and our Nation," Bromwich said.
