A tragic incident occurred in Iraq where more than 100 people lost their lives in a fire at a wedding hall. The fire started about an hour into the wedding celebration, causing panic among the attendees. The fire seemed to have originated from a ceiling decoration, catching fire while the bride and groom were dancing. Disturbingly, video footage captured the moment of the fire's outbreak.
Firefighters reportedly arrived at the scene 30 minutes after the fire began. As of the latest update, the Deputy Governor of Nineveh province confirmed the death toll to be 113. President Abdul Latif Rashid has called for an investigation into the incident. Arrest warrants have been issued for the owners of the wedding hall, with claims that the structure was not suitable for such events. One of the owners has been taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the building was constructed with highly flammable materials. Witnesses stated that there were few exits and no visible fire extinguishers in the hall. The bride and groom reportedly survived the fire. The bodies of the victims were identified by friends and relatives and were left outside the morgue, waiting to be transported for proper arrangements.
