Major HIV outbreak in Lawrence & Lowell Officials Say

Massachusetts officials have reported that there is a signficant increase in HIV cases reported in Lawrence and Lowell than previously thought. With the Fentanyl epidemic ravaging through Northeast Massachusetts, officials say this is a major contribution to the spread of HIV in these regions.

Boston Glode reports that Federal disease-trackers counted 129 new cases of HIV among injecting-drug users in the area since the beginning of 2015 — 33 percent more than state officials’ original count last spring. Read more on the story here.
