Payless tricked customers in a recent social experiment where they opened a fake luxury store to see how much people would pay for their shoes if they didn't know that it their brand. Payless held a grand opening for "Palessi" and invited fashion forward thinkers to see if prices were fairly marked for the shoes in the store.
Those that attended the exclusive party paid between $200 and $600 for Payless shoes that typically run up to $40. Payless, as Palessi, sold $3,000 worth of shoes in hours within the opening.
“I would pay $400, $500,” said one influencer. “People will be like ‘where did you get those?'”
All customers were refunded their money once they made the purchase and also given a free pair of shoes after being revealed that they were buying payless footwear. Check out some of the reactions below and read more on the story here.
