Firefighters were extinguishing a car fire late Sunday night when they made a gruesome discovery. The body of a 3-year-old girl. The child was strapped in the back seat with the doors to the vehicle chained shut.
The firefighters grabbed the baby out of the blazing car but she later succumbed to her injuries.
As the investigation commenced authorities located the girls father within the area at a nearby pond trying to put out flames on his body. He was taken into custody and it was discovered that him and the mother of the deceased 3-year-old girl were in a custody battle.
The mother of a little Queens girl said Monday that the words she heard from the deranged father before the crime are forever etched in her mind:
“You’ll never see your daughter again.”
“I always thought he was going to hurt me," said Cherone Coleman, 36, who spoke to the Daily News surrounded by family as she seesawed between grief and anger.
"I never thought he was going to hurt my daughter,” Coleman said.
