“Every cause is a good cause, but we know Our Own is the cause that will change the world!”
Our Own is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on the principle that you can’t solve a problem with a single solution. Our communities have a long history of socioeconomic injustices that have created generational disparities, making it challenging to advance in society. Our mission is to dismantle these systemic barriers and create the access needed in nutrition, education, entrepreneurship, and maternal, mental, and physical health to bridge the gap further to ensure racial equity and social justice.
Meet The Founders
Social Entrepreneurs and Cultural Producers Dustin Young & Lee Johnson founded and have led Our Own since 2018. With a wealth of experience, both are hyper-focused on consistently impacting underserved communities.
Leading The Wellness Space With The
CLASSROOM RETROFIT INITIATIVE
OUR OWN Wellness Spaces is a classroom retrofit initiative launching in 2022. Focused on developing mentally fit students through meditation, yoga, and nutrition, our goal is to change how schools perceive and participate in health and wellness activities—conceived and curated by Our Own, these spaces in classrooms across the nation that will allow students and educators to cultivate moments of wellness. With a focus on modern aesthetics, these spaces will feature individual meditation pods, group meditation areas, yoga mats, and immersive technology. In addition, Our Own will curate weekly programming, monthly activations, teacher retreats, and overall wrap-around mentorship support for students.
Mentorship | Be Right Back Steam
Be Right Back creates STEAM programming designed to shift the mindset of the participants, changing the way they live, how they see themselves, and ultimately what they can achieve. Throughout each 12-week program, cohorts explore different industries through focused activities, professional mentorship, skill development as well as an understanding of the importance of self-care through mental acuity.
SEED & SOIL
/ AGRITECH & NUTRITION INITIATIVE /
Seed & Soil is Our Own’s commitment to ending hunger in our communities. Since our inception in 2018, we have provided over 150,000 meals to those who lack adequate nutrition throughout Los Angeles. Understanding the lack of equity, Our Own is strategically focused on creating access to nutrition education, and food and ideating toward advancements in AgriTech solutions that build sustainable communities.
