Rising Rapper Dré Anthony is Making Waves in Local Hip-Hop Scene

Toronto-based rapper Dré Anthony takes inspiration from real-life experiences. Although life was tough for the rising artist growing up in government housing, he overcame hardship and learned that giving up was not an option; that also included his career in music. Dré knew he wanted to pursue music after attending a talent show at the age of 11. “I knew I felt something for music then,” he said. “I first started to write a few songs when I was 13 and I didn’t officially record until I was 18.”

In 2020, Anthony released his first mixtape Dice, followed by the single “Shining”, which was well-received by fans. He describes his sound as versatile, as his genre falls into the Hip-Hop, R&B, and Dancehall category. The rapper also writes his own lyrics and hopes to also produce one day. Aside from the music industry, the young artist wouldn’t mind dabbling into another field. “Music for me will always be a lifetime thing, so I will always create until I can not anymore. But aside from music, I would venture into business and explore my other talents.”

This year, Dré plans on releasing three new singles –an alternative R&B/Pop record, a catchy Pop/Hip-Hop track, and a Pop/Dancehall single. As someone who has been inspired by others, the up-and-comer would like to make an impact with his work. Anthony wants other aspiring artists to pursue their dreams and change their life for the better.
