Black Picasso talks about working with Drake, moving to California & more!


Hakim Waters also best known by his stage name Black Picasso, is an American Painter/Fashion Designer from Utica, New York and the majority of his life he was raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Hakim attended school at The New England Institute of art and graduated in 2016. He is the co-founder of Black Picasso Inc with business partner Adrian Brown. In addition, he is the co-founder of Pie Art society, an art collaborative collective of the artist throughout the east coast based out of Boston Massachusetts. 

Hakims success thus far can be attributed to designing custom denim jackets to A list entertainers such as Drake, Erykah Badu, Designer, David and Dj Akademiks. In 2016 Drake commissioned a series of custom denim jean jackets with artwork by Black Picasso one of which gained popularity on social media (Lejorn twins jacket) The jacket was revealed when Drake wore it to fellow Rapper French Montana's celebrity birthday party in late 2016. Picasso also worked on custom murals with the Miami Dolphins. Early inspirations for Hakim were Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Will Smith, and Jim Carrey, and his name (Black Picasso) took inspiration from Pablo Picasso and the original Black Panther party. Hakim is known for the saying “Pick up the pencil and put down the guns” A movement that is about stopping gun violence in the inner urban cities. In 2018 Hakim received an award for the best visual artist in Boston from the popular magazine The Improper Boston. Currently, the brand has expanded to the west coast market.
