BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Another snowstorm takes aim at Massachusetts on Friday night, with the potential to bring up to a foot of snow in some spots. Snowfall predictions were were all over the map, literally and figuratively.

In the city of Boston, the National Weather Service said to expect up to two inches. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect between Boston and Springfield south of the Mass Pike, where snowfall amounts could range from half a foot to just an inch of snow.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for much of the state north of the Pike, excluding the North Shore and Cape Ann. Snowfall amounts there could hit as high as 11 inches, but could also be as low as four inches.

The National Weather Service said part of the challenge with forecasting this storm was predicting how much of the precipitation is going to end up as sleet when a burst of warm air spreads over the region. Sleet is much more compact than snow, and but both count as snow for forecasts.

Accuweather is predicting a more uniform 2-4 inches in Boston, with 4-8 inches in the northern and western suburbs and higher amounts beyond I-495.

Generally, the NWS said to expect more snow the farther north one goes.
